CANADA TRUST BUILDING

Firm: Rule Wynn and Rule

Address: 528 8 Avenue SW

Date of final plans: 1955

Status: demolished in 19??

Although Canada Trust became synonymous with the Central Canadian financial establishment, the company had in fact been founded in Calgary. The company originated in this city in 1894 and its first chairman was James Lougheed. The company moved to London in 1899 when it was acquired by the Huron and Erie. This building, therefore represented a kind of homecoming for the company. The two-storey block was intended to be expanded to five floors, though I don't think it was ever completed.
